Amoxicillin
Penicillin-Class Antibiotic
Usage & Dosage
What is Amoxicillin?
Amoxicillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections, such as chest infections (including pneumonia), dental abscesses, and urinary tract infections (UTIs). It works by stopping the growth of bacteria; it will not work for viral infections like the common cold or flu.
How to use Amoxicillin
Take this medication by mouth exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually every 8 or 12 hours. It can be taken with or without food. To ensure the infection is completely cleared, finish the full course of the medication even if your symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping too early may allow bacteria to continue growing, which can lead to a return of the infection.
