What is Topamax?
Topamax (Topiramate) is an anticonvulsant medication primarily used to prevent migraine headaches and manage certain types of seizure disorders. Unlike "as-needed" rescue medications, Topamax is a preventative treatment that works by calming overactive nerves in the brain to reduce the frequency and severity of migraine attacks.
How to use Topamax
Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually twice daily. It can be taken with or without food. To prevent kidney stones, it is important to drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication. Do not stop taking Topamax suddenly without consulting your physician.

Critical Warnings
Vision Warning: Contact your physician immediately if you experience a sudden decrease in vision or pain around the eyes, as this can be a sign of a serious eye problem.
Metabolic Acidosis: Topamax can increase the acid level in your blood. Inform your doctor if you experience rapid breathing, irregular heartbeat, or persistent fatigue.
